My Own Way
"I decided to do things my own way," wrote a listener to Thru the Bible in South Africa. While I was interviewing Thru the Bible President Gregg Harris and listening to the letter he was reading, I couldn't help but think of Frank Sinatra's song My Way from 1969. First off, I appreciate Frank Sinatra's voice, and I've always liked the tune of My Way. However, when we look at the lyrics, especially in light of eternity, it's not a good idea to arrogantly tell Almighty God, "I did it my way." According to Romans 3:23 (NKJV), we "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." You see, living life our way always falls short. We'll never make it to Heaven that way. So, what must we do to be assured of Heaven after we die? The only answer is Jesus. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16, NIV). Simply put, you make it to Heaven by believing in Jesus. To learn more, I encourage you to click on the link below and watch a video about "Knowing God."
