We learn from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (ESV):

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."

Whether we're talking about sickness, financial hardship, family trouble, or emotional scars from the past, the same God who has comforted you can use you to comfort others who are now going through similar situations.  Like Kim Orellano on today's Footsteps, the Lord can use you to sit down with a hurting individual and say with compassionate understanding, "I know.  I know."
