Comfort in the Valley
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me. – Psalm 23:4
Most of us know what it feels like to be alone in the dark. We know what it’s like to feel afraid or anxious.
In Psalm 23, David writes about a time when he is sure he will lose his life. It was a season when he had to walk “through the valley of the shadow of death.” Yet he wasn’t afraid because he knew that the One who had the ability to bring light to the darkest situation was walking with him every step of the way.
When we face difficulties that threaten our hope and peace, God is quick to reassure us of His never-ending love. When we wake in the middle of the night to the enemy’s whispered lies that we’re not going to make it through the difficulty, the angel of the Lord rebukes him. God will bring His truth to our minds. All we need to do is what David did—proclaim what we know is true.
In essence, David said, “Though I walk through the threat of death, I will not fear because You, my Lord and Savior, are beside me.” There is no force greater than God, and He is the One who loves you with an intimate, personal love. Even though life may become dark at times, His light continues to burn. There is no darkness in this universe strong enough to quench the light of God’s love. You have no reason to fear because He is with you to comfort you on the way through your valley.
You don’t walk this path alone.
