Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law. Psalm 119:18

As Jesus was leaving Jericho, two blind men who were sitting along the roadway called out to Him, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” (Matthew 20:30). More than likely, Jesus had spotted the men on his way into the city. Perhaps they had even cried out to Him then but He waited to see if their desire to be healed waned. It did not.

In fact, the crowd that was with Jesus tried to silence the men, but their efforts didn’t work. As the Lord drew nearer, the men only grew louder in their request to be healed. Stopping beside them, Jesus asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?” (verse 32).

They could have asked for anything—wealth, riches, fame, or fortune. Instead, they asked for sight. “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened” (verse 33). The text says that Jesus was moved with compassion and granted their request. He touched their eyes, and they regained what was once lost.

Perhaps you have a very great need in your life, and you have cried out to the Lord to be healed or rescued from some ruin. Maybe your son or daughter is living outside of God’s will and you remember how he or she once sat beside you in church. Don’t give up. God is listening. He hears your prayers. You may not understand all there is to this life, but God will open your eyes of faith when you pray.

Because of His great care for you, you can pray, “Open my eyes, Lord, so I can see Your will and purpose for my life. Even though sorrow and thoughts of impossibilities tug at my heart, You give me the ability to believe and live life to the fullest.”
