Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done
When you pray for the Kingdom of God to come and for His will to be done, you are asking for three things. First, you are praying for God’s authority over your own life. You are saying, “Lord, may Your rule be extended into every area of my life. May Your authority be established in my life, in my family’s life, in my business, and in my church.”
Second, you are praying for the unsaved. You are asking for the salvation of those who have not yet become citizens of the Kingdom of God. You are saying, “Lord, may Your enemies and the enemies of the Gospel repent and come back to You. May You increase the number of citizens of the Kingdom of heaven here on earth.”
Third, you are expressing a longing for the second coming of Christ. You are longing for Jesus to return and for His physical rule to be established on earth as it is in heaven. When you honestly pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10, KJV), then God will work out His will in your life.
Are you seeking God’s Kingdom and will in your life, or have you been preoccupied with your own will? Is there an area of your life that you need to turn over to the lordship and rule of Christ? Are you praying regularly for the lost in your life, that they might be brought into the Kingdom?
Prayer: Father, help me to desire Your authority over my life. May I be burdened for the lost as I long for Your return. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
