Links in a Chain
On today's Footsteps, Jenny Noyes of New Wineskins Missionary Network talks about the big picture of missions. Basically, it's all about the partnerships between missionaries in the field, supporters at home, and of course, the Lord Jesus. Jenny reminds us, "I always picture it as links in a chain ... We're not the whole chain, but each of us is called to do our part." That's a great image! The apostle Paul would agree, though he described this partnership concept with a slightly different illustration:
"What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. Now the one planting and the one watering are one in purpose, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s coworkers." (1 Corinthians 3:5-9a, HCSB).
Wow! Not only are we working alongside one another, but we actually are "coworkers" with our sovereign God in this process! That thought should give you some confidence today to share your faith.
