Are We Ready to Follow God?
“Elijah came near to all the people and said, ‘How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.’ But the people did not answer him a word.”
1 Kings 18:21
There are questions and then there are questions! Have you ever noticed when you ask someone a question that they don’t really want to answer how they can stutter and stammer, hem and haw, and after you walk away from the conversation you realize they really didn’t answer you?
The question that Elijah asked the people of the kingdom of Judah is a major issue for Christians today. The difference between spiritual victory and a powerful witness comes down to this issue—hesitating between complete surrender to Jesus Christ or living a compromised life.
How many times have you heard someone say, “If I had known what I was getting into, I never would have said yes.”
Many times, probably. And I’m sure you’ve said it yourself. We’ve all been there. That’s why it’s important to know the real deal before you make a commitment.
If you are going to do what’s necessary to follow Christ as His disciple, you need to know what He expects of you. You need to know the real deal.
The real deal is that you and I are called to follow Christ, period. Not to follow Christ if we know we’re going to have a roof over our heads. Not to follow Him as long as we know where our next meal is coming from. Not to follow Him on our own terms, when we’re ready.
The real deal is that being a disciple has to be such a priority that we commit ourselves to follow Jesus wherever He leads us and whatever He tells us to do. He wants us to follow Him because we love Him, not because we love what we might get from Him.
Discipleship love is obedient love! Don’t hesitate!
