Through the years, I have enjoyed playing and coaching soccer.  In coaching, I have stressed the need to pass the ball, and for effective passing to take place, players need to constantly be moving to "open space."  In other sports, like basketball or football, players should always try to "get open" in order to receive a pass.  The idea is that a player should continually put himself in a favorable position to best help his teammates.  In other words, he must be open, willing, and ready.  This concept is also important in the spiritual life of a Christian.  On today's Footsteps, Jon Hull states that "we must be ready at all times to do the job that God has purposed for us at that particular moment."  So, like a well-positioned soccer player, let's be ready to receive that pass from the Lord, which is His next assignment for us, and then let's run with it!
