On today's Footsteps, Thru The Bible's Executive Director Gregg Harris tells the story of a listener from a Middle Eastern country where there are "severe consequences" for becoming a Christian.  Gregg points out that in that country, "There's a great risk in ... following Jesus as Lord and ... telling anybody about it."  What a difficult way of life!  I feel blessed to live in a country where persecution of Christians is almost nonexistent--at least for now.  But biblically speaking, am I really as blessed as my Christian brothers and sisters who are risking their lives every day for the Gospel?  Do you remember what Jesus said in Matthew 5:10-11 (ESV)?

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account."

You see, within the Kingdom of God, these peresecuted believers are receiving a blessing that I likely will never experience!
