The Divine Ought
On today's Footsteps, former TWR Vice President Alan Travers makes reference to "the Divine Ought." I had never heard anyone use that term before, but I love it! When we know that God is leading us in a certain direction, when we have a mandate from Scripture, or when we know that something is right, that's the Divine Ought. The great American frontiersman and politician Davy Crockett held to a very similar rule for his life. Instead of calling it the Divine Ought, Davy Crockett's life motto was "Be always sure you're right--THEN GO AHEAD!"(1) That's a good way to live.
