Created for Eternity
If the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven. – 2 Corinthians 5:1-2
God created you for Himself, and He created you for eternity. You weren’t created simply for time. God has placed eternity in our hearts, something within us that longs to live forever.
If you have been made for eternity yet you are limiting yourself to thinking temporally, you’re not fulfilling your potential. Second Corinthians 5:10 tells us that we must all appear before Christ’s judgment seat. We will be held accountable; we must answer to God. This kind of thinking ought to affect the way you live because if God is the center of your existence and eternity is your goal, your choices, decisions, values, and priorities will change.
However, many Christians have been lulled into a life of either complacency or immediacy, thinking that now is all there really is. They don’t understand that what they do now is actually a precursor to what they will experience later.
Making eternity your goal should shape your actions in this life. When it does, you will reap the rewards—both now and forever.
