Choosing Your Response
If you follow the news, you see catastrophic events taking place worldwide. How do you react to these events?
Some are indifferent. They see sin and suffering around the world, and they feel nothing—as long as it is not touching them, they can maintain an emotional distance, isolating themselves from this aspect of the world’s brokenness. Others think the events indicate that the world is coming to an end, so they start planning their personal survival by storing food and gold and silver.
A third group sees that the world seems to be out of control and that nature is groaning in anticipation of its final redemption. However, these people recognize that the world is under the sovereign control of God.
This group chooses to minister, serve, give and sacrifice regardless of the circumstances, trusting the sovereignty of God. This group takes the world news and views it with a godly perspective, remembering the hope of heaven we have in Christ Jesus and saying with Paul, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
Prayer: Father, help me to have a godly perspective of the events that I hear about in the news and that I see happening around me. Help me to remember that no matter what happens, You are in control. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth” (Job 19:25).
