Footsteps is limited each day to just two minutes.  Often, I agonize over what pieces of a story I have to edit out of the final program.  For instance, for today's episode with Phil James of The Word for You Today, I had to cut many details out of his narrative for the sake of time.  BUT, I'm going to share a "deleted scene" with you now.  First, listen to today's program called "Standoff," then read some of the extra details that Phil gave about this true story:

"Some of the people said, 'Pastor, if you're staying, we're staying.'  And so, they stayed.  And the bulldozers surrounded the building with their big diesel engines vibrating the very ground and walls of the building.  And so, it was a standoff.  Some of the people that left came back and brought sleeping bags, camp beds, and stuff so that people could stay through the night.  They (the government authorities) figured that eventually the people would leave, and when they left, they would knock the building down.  So it went on for days.  They cut off the water.  The people started bringing in five and ten gallon cans of water.  They cut off the power.  The people put their money together and got a generator so that they could have lights in the building.  It was in the winter, and the generator wasn't strong enough to heat the building, so they got together and got a woodburning furnace and put that in the building, and then several of them went out with their trucks and vans and cut down wood and brought the fuel back.  So, this now is going into weeks, and they're always rotating so there's always people in the building.  Eventually, after months, the authorites said, "Enough!  We're gonna knock this building down whether there's people in it or not ...'"

I'd love to see this story made into a movie!  May God be praised for His sufficient grace in the lives of those church members during thier brave standoff.
