In John chapter 9, we read about a man whom Jesus healed:

"As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.  And his disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?'  Jesus answered, 'It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.'"  (John 9:1-3, ESV)

On today's Footsteps, Ed Cannon of the Far East Broadcasting Company tells the story of an Indonesian man who is almost completely deaf.  Through the years, someone might have asked, "Why is he deaf?  Has he always been this way?  Was it an accident?  Or, did he or his parents sin and cause this?"  I don't have all the answers, but I think it's safe to say that he is currently deaf so "that the works of God might be displayed in him."
