Plant that Seed
In Matthew 13, Jesus delivers the Parable of the Sower to the "great crowds gathered about him" (v. 2):
“A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." (Matthew 13:3b-8, ESV)
Then, after speaking to the masses, Jesus explains the parable to His disciples in verses 18-23. While I'm not going to focus on the explanation, I am going to mention one point. Notice that the sower was not overly careful about where he sowed the seed. He just threw it out. He scattered it. We need to follow in the footsteps of the sower. We need to generously scatter the Gospel. In today's program, Ron Hutchcraft puts it this way, "Our job is to plant that seed in human hearts." I encourage you to listen to the program, and may Ron inspire you to sow some seed today!
