The Battle Is Spiritual
Read Exodus 7:1-24.
Do you know what the world’s number-one religion is? It’s the worship of self. So many people across the world live for their own pleasure, fulfillment, and security. Even many false religions are really self-worship in disguise. But Jesus came to destroy the worship of self because, ultimately, every one of us needs saving and not one of us can save ourselves. That path always leads to death. That’s why Jesus calls us to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him (see Matthew 16:24). For many people, that’s a call they cannot heed; they cannot deny the god they love with all their heart—themselves.
Even when people are confronted with genuine miracles, many simply refuse to believe what they have witnessed. That’s what happened in Egypt. God sent ten plagues upon the land, each one designed to reveal the powerlessness of the Egyptian gods. Yet with each plague, the prideful did not repent. Pharaoh, who had a front-row seat to the miraculous plagues, only exhibited cheap and temporary repentance. Each time, after each plague was lifted, he hardened his heart against the Lord.
Just as judgment came upon Egypt, judgment is coming upon our world. This is what the book of Revelation repeatedly tells us. But God’s desire is not for sinners to perish; He wants them to find life in His Son. That is why He sends this world warning after warning.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your mercy and grace. Thank You for calling me out of darkness. May I share the wonders of Your love and the miracles You have performed in my own heart so that others might come to saving faith in You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it” (Exodus 7:5).
