Many Roma or Gypsies of Eastern Europe live in deep poverty, and very few people have any desire to help them.  So, as believers, how is the best way to minister to the Roma?  According to Tibor Kulcsar on today's Footsteps, "If we wish to help them, we have to reach for their spirit and show the way to Christ."  What exactly does Tibor mean when he says, "reach for their spirit?"  He's talking about speaking to a person's heart.  For instance, in Psalm 51:17 (ESV), we see a parallel between spirit and heart: "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."  If we want to reach these Gypsies, we must not begin and end with physical and social intervention.  As Christ's ambassadors, we must "reach for their spirit" by sharing the Gospel with them.
