Can We Reconcile?
Jesus is in the business of reconciliation. We should be too. The apostle Paul writes about this work of Christ in 2 Corinthians:
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their wrongdoings against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation." (2 Corinthians 5:17-19, NASB)
On today's Footsteps, TWR-Malawi's Victor Kaonga relays an estranged couple's story of reconciliation. Whether in Africa or America, God uses Christian radio to restore broken marriages. But, practically speaking, how? It starts with the love of Jesus. Let me remind you of 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV): "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." An accompanying note in the Ryrie Study Bible reads, "Love forgives over and over."(1) I hope that helps.
