Titanic
The RMS Titanic. I'm sure you know the story. Whether you've watched one of the many movies or documentaries about Titanic, or you've read a book about it, you know the account of how the largest ship of its day sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York killing over 1,500 of its 2,224 passengers and crew. One of the passengers who died in the frigid waters of the North Atlantic was a Baptist pastor from London named John Harper. After Titanic struck an iceberg and began sinking, John placed his 6-year-old daughter Nana into a lifeboat. Nana survived that night. Her father did not. Those who who were rescued remembered John Harper as the man who swam in the icy water asking each person, "Are you saved?" His continual admonition to everyone that night was, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved."(1) Ron Hutchcraft has that same passion for reaching the unsaved, and on today's Footsteps, Ron uses an illustration from Titanic to challenge all of us to rescue the perishing.
