Helped by the Spirit
We find strength in God’s power, motivation in His love, and wisdom in His discipline. But without the Spirit’s help, we can easily fall victim to Satan’s attempts to plant seeds of doubt, fear, and timidity in our hearts.
Jesus tells us, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:26-27).
Paul was imprisoned in a dark dungeon, awaiting his execution, when he wrote his second letter to Timothy. Yet one of his final acts was to encourage Timothy in his ministry. Paul knew God’s plans for Timothy were far greater than any fears the young disciple could have. But Paul also knew that in the midst of Timothy’s discouragement, he might have been tempted to give up.
Are you on the verge of giving up? Are you stuck in your fears? Then remember how God has blessed you and protected you in the past. Reflect on the times when He has called you to a task and worked out the details to help you succeed. The same God who encouraged you in the past, who has walked with you through hardships and blessings, is walking with you today.
Prayer: God, thank You for giving me the Holy Spirit to help me during difficult times. Thank You for the ways You bless me and protect me. I know that just as You have been with me through past trials, You are with me today. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
