Aware of the Enemy
I have watched disagreements between believers develop and then denigrate into a war of words. The end result is two people perceiving one another as enemies.
I also have watched Christians repeatedly yield to temptation and sin and then rationalize their behavior by blaming others for their circumstances. These Christians do not realize the deeper reality, the greater battle they are unwittingly facing and losing. They are oblivious to Satan’s mission, which is to prevent them from living holy and pure lives before the Lord, compromising both their witness and joy.
Churches and Christian organizations are not immune to Satan’s attacks. A church may be vibrant and active until one or more individuals begins to murmur against God’s vision and plan. Soon, a group gathers and begins murmuring, which undermines the work of the Lord. Satan’s plots are real, and they are dangerous. We must be aware of them, or he will destroy our marriages, friendships, and other important relationships.
Jesus referred to Satan as the “prince of this world” (John 16:11). Our enemy is on the prowl. Burying our heads in the sand or hiding from the spiritual battle will not protect us. In Christ, we can boldly face our enemy, knowing that Satan is ultimately a defeated foe.
Prayer: God, help me to be mindful of the enemy’s plots. Thank You that I can boldly face the enemy, knowing that he is already defeated. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:10-11).
