Illegal for the Church to Exist
On today's Footsteps, "Edwin," who works with TWR in some very sensitive countries, talks about persecution against Christians. He points out that there are many countries in the world "where it's illegal for the Church to exist." And yet, the Church does exist in these countries. Yes, while many of these churches might be underground, believers are still gathering together and studying the Word of God. I'm reminded of Acts 8 (ESV) where "there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria" (v. 1). Then, just a few verses later, "Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word" (v. 4). You see, even under persecution, even when it's illegal, the Church, which is the Body of Christ, continued to exist in the first century, and it will continue to exist in our day. May God be praised!
