Yahweh Rohi: God Our Shepherd
Read Psalm 23:1-4.
In our modern world, most of us are far removed from sheep or shepherding, so when we hear that God is Yahweh Rohi, our Shepherd, it can be easy to miss the beauty and tenderness of the sentiment. To understand what it’s all about, you must first know that a sheep relies on its shepherd for everything. Without a good shepherd, a sheep is liable to be picked off by a predator, wander off into dangerous terrain, or succumb to the elements. Our Good Shepherd not only supplies all our needs, God’s Word tells us He “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). With God as our Yahweh Rohi, we are always in good hands.
His grace is perfect, and His peace is enduring. His leading is thoughtful and personal, and His comfort superior to all others. His companionship is eternal, and He banishes all our fears. He provides so abundantly that our enemies will see His blessings and flee. He has anointed us for future glory, and His goodness and mercy overflow in the present.
Praise Yahweh Rohi, our Shepherd! Whatever you’re going through, know that He cares for you. He loves you with an everlasting love. Draw near to Him, and He will refresh your soul. Listen to His voice, and He will lead you along the right paths. Even in the darkest valley, He will not abandon you.
Prayer: Jesus, You are my Good Shepherd, my constant protector and friend. Your care is amazing; Your grace is precious to me. With You I lack no good thing. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing” (Psalm 23:1).
