Go Someplace and Do Something
During Jesus' earthly ministry, he commissioned His twelve disciples for what I call a "short-term mission trip." We read about this commissioning in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Let me make two quick observations. First, "He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two" (Mark 6:7a, ESV). They were not working alone; the Lord sent them out in small teams. Second, Jesus "gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction" (Matthew 10:1b, ESV). The disciples were not operating in their own strength; the powerful hand of Jesus was working through them. These two details should give us courage and confidence as we take part in short-term mission trips! Do you have plans for such a trip in the near future? On today's Footsteps, Reach Beyond's Ron Cline says, "I want to encourage your listeners to consider just going someplace in the world and doing something, and then watch what God does." Think about it. Pray about it. Look for an opportunity. It's truly exciting!
