The Deep Stuff of Rejection
Are you ever hesitant to share Jesus with someone because you fear rejection? Pete Walker shares some thoughts about this subject on today's Footsteps. I find it interesting that Pete quotes Hebrews 13:13. Let's look at this verse in it's context:
"For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp. So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured. For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." (Hebrews 13:11-16, ESV)
So much unifying doctrine is summarized and packed into this one paragraph! We see consistent details between the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament and the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. We are made aware that if we identify with Christ, we also can expect to endure suffering, and at the same time, we're reminded that as followers of Jesus, like Him, we are not citizens of this world. Instead, Heaven awaits us! Plus, we learn the kinds of sacrifices we must offer in order to please our Holy God. What a passage! Thanks Pete for pointing us in this direction. May these few verses embolden us to stand firm with Jesus and to share Him with others.
