Rooted in the Word of God
In his letter to the believers in Colosse, the apostle Paul admonishes,
"As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
"Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ." (Colossians 2:6-8, NKJV)
Just as in Paul's day, we too are surrounded by an unbelieving society that is pushing secular "philosophy and empty deceit," and "the god of this world," who is Satan, "has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God" (Colossians 4:4, ESV). So, how are we to avoid being blinded by Satan and cheated by his philosophers? As believers, we must be "rooted and built up" in Jesus, and in order to learn about our Lord and become established in our faith, we must study His Word.
TWR's radio program Women of Hope takes this approach. As Dr. Peggy Banks explains on today's Footsteps, "any time I teach, any time we produce a program, we want to make sure it's rooted in God's Word, and it's only God's Word that's speaking to them because that's really where the life and the hope is."
