His Grace Makes Us Generous
Those of us who are the recipients of God’s amazing gift of salvation have no option but to give of ourselves in gratitude. It is both an attitude that we strive to develop in our hearts and one that naturally arises by the power of the Holy Spirit as we mature in faith.
Generosity flows from grace. Just as God’s grace toward us makes Him generous, the more we cherish the grace we have received, the more generous we will become. The more we comprehend the incredible gift of eternal life, the more we will give of our time, our finances, our energy, and our resources, not in an effort to pay God back for His gift—we could never pay Him back in 20,000 lifetimes—but because we are inwardly and irrevocably changed by our unchanging God.
Because God is changeless, you and I need to change, to become more and more like Him, moving from one point of glory to the next. We are to change in attitude from owners to stewards, from hoarders to sharers and sowers. For, we have a sure hope—the promise of heaven with our loving Father, a future that will infinitely fulfill all our deepest hopes and longings. Our faithful God frees us to give generously today, so let’s set our hearts in heaven and use all we’ve been given to invite others into the hope of eternity found in Christ alone.
Prayer: Father, as I reflect on the gift I have received in Christ, work in my heart to make me generous in turn. May I set my hope and treasure in heaven with You, that I might be free to love and give with abandon. I know my all is You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:24-25).
