Trusting God’s Gift
Scripture tells us that the God of all creation has a deep appreciation for the cheerful giver (see 2 Corinthians 9:7). That’s because those who love much give much, reflecting the character of our generous Father in heaven. By faith, the cheerful giver says, “I know my anchor, Jesus Christ, holds. I know He’s going to provide for every need, and I will not be shaken.”
When you give back to God, your sin nature might say, “I have less because I gave.” But with the eyes of faith, you can say, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). For, not only has the Christian already received every spiritual blessing through our precious Christmas gift, Jesus Christ, but God also promises the cheerful giver who trusts Him that He “is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8). Paul is saying here that God’s gracious giving is limitless; indeed, who can measure the stores of Almighty God’s blessings?
So this season, dive deep into the Gospel story. Relish the wonder of God’s indescribable gift. Pour your life out as an offering today and always—so that with the love God has poured into you, you might love much and so give much for the glory of God.
Prayer: God, grant me eyes of faith to see the treasure I have in You and to know You have given me all I need at all times to abound in every good work. May I be cheered by this Truth—You are with me. Help me give joyfully because I am Your child. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
