The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is. – Romans 14:22-23

Things that the Bible condemns are always wrong. Things that the Bible condones are always right. But the things that the Bible neither condemns nor condones are up to our own personal convictions, which are based on our consciences. This is an important principle to observe. The Holy Spirit warns us about things we are not to do. It is a sin to go against our consciences. When we honor our conscience, God honors us.

Scottish Eric Liddel was a devout Christian running for the glory of God. He held the conviction that he should not run on Sundays. In 1924, he participated in the Paris Olympics. His best run was the 100-meter dash, but he learned that the preliminary dashes were on Sunday. He refused to run them. Instead he turned his attention to the 200 and 400. Though he was not expected to win, he came in first in the 400, set a world record, and won the gold medal. The Sunday of the 100-meter event, he was in church preaching the gospel.

God honored him when he kept his commitment in faith. Likewise, He will honor you when you do the same. Trust Him and see what He will do.
