Death Is a Paper Tiger
Read Romans 8:31-39.
As Christians, we have some formidable enemies plotting against us. The unbelieving world persecutes us; indwelling sin sabotages us; Satanic principalities tempt us; and death stalks us.
But while these enemies are powerful, they are nothing compared to the one who is in us and for us. In fact, these enemies are like a man who seems intimidating because he’s seven feet tall but has never exercised a day in his life. He thinks he’s strong, so he gets into the ring with a professional boxer—who then takes him out with just one punch!
Because of Christ, our enemies don’t stand a chance. After all, who can condemn us when God has set us free? The love of Christ for His elect is so powerful, so permanent, so unchangeable, that nothing can separate us from it.
In Romans 8:35, Paul lists seven powerful things that could really challenge our faith, but they all will ultimately fail. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus—not trouble; not hardship; not persecution; not famine; not nakedness; not danger; not even death. God will never give you up—so don’t be intimidated by the paper tigers present in your life today.
Prayer: God, I thank You for making me more than a conqueror through Christ. May I live with quiet confidence in You, remembering that You are my strength. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? . . . No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:35, 37).
