Hallowed Be Thy Name
Hallowed is an old English word that means “to be holy” or “to be set apart.” To hallow the name of God is to set Him apart in our praise, adoration, and worship. The purpose of setting apart God’s name is to magnify, to honor, and to glorify His name. We do this in three ways.
First, we rejoice at the name of God with our heart and mouth, praying and thereby honoring the name of God. Second, we hallow God’s name by setting apart an offering to God. When we give our tithes and offerings, we are praising God as much as when we sing or pray to Him. Third, we hallow the name of God by living in obedience to Him and His Word in every area of our lives. When we say no to temptation, we are praising and glorifying the name of God.
These three forms of adoration to our heavenly Father say, “Lord God, we recognize and surrender to Your power and authority over us.” The very essence of praise is the decentralization of self. It is a key sign that we are spiritually healthy.
The adoration of the name of God is the secret to answered prayer. It is the secret to victory in your life. To uplift the great name of God produces an immediate love response in His great heart. To praise Him with all your heart, to praise Him with your substance, to praise Him in obedience is a sheer delight to the heart of God. The more we lose ourselves in adoration of God, the more blessed and overwhelmed we will be with His loving response toward us.
Do you feel you are in a dry land spiritually? Do you feel that God is not really responding to you? Develop a life of praise and gratitude in all its forms. Bless the name of the Lord and experience the delight that the Lord has in you.
Prayer: Father, I bless Your name. Help me to hallow Your name with my heart and mouth, with my offerings, and with my obedience. I adore You, Almighty God. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name” (Psalm 30:4).
