"Jesus and the message of the gospel is not just about water and blankets today; it's about the source of water and blankets for all time," states Pete Walker on today's Footsteps.  In this day and age, many individuals, churches, and ministries believe that we must meet the physical needs of people before we can share the message of salvation with them.  You will hear more of Pete's heart and position on this issue when you listen to the program, and as you do, remember these two verses from the apostle Paul's writings:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16, ESV)

"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1 Corinthians 1:18, ESV)

There can be no doubt that the gospel is more powerful than the warmest blanket or the coolest cup of water.  As we minister to the homeless and hurting, we must not fail to tell them about the Good News of Jesus.  That must be our overarching priority.
