The Devil Is Not Happy
On more than one occasion, Jesus referred to Satan as "the ruler of this world" (John 12:31, John 14:30, ESV). The apostle Paul calls the Devil "the god of this world" (2 Corinthians 4:4, ESV). When asked by God, "From where have you come? Satan answered the LORD and said, 'From going to and from on the earth, and from walking up and down on it'" (Job 1:7, ESV). So, if this world is Satan's turf, shouldn't we expect him to attack us? Especially concerning missions? The devil doesn't want to give up any yardage on his home field! Just ask TWR's Bill Mial. On today's Footsteps, Bill remembers a particular night when Satan kept hurling fiery darts at him. But, what should the rest of us do when Satan comes after us? "Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world" (1 Peter 5:8-9, HCSB).
