Men after His Own Heart
In 1 Samuel chapter 13, Samuel rebuked Saul for his disobedience to God and his poor leadership as king of Israel:
"And Samuel said to Saul, 'You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the LORD your God, with which he commanded you. For then the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be prince over his people ... '" (1 Samuel 13:13-14a, ESV)
This "man after his (God's) own heart" was of course David, and while David certainly was not perfect, as a whole, he did follow the Lord and proved to be a successful king. As a result, God blessed David by establishing an eternal kingdom through him. Remember, Jesus "was of the house and lineage of David!" (Luke 2:4b, ESV)
At TWR, the goal of Every Man A Warrior (our men's small-group discipleship curriculum written by Lonnie Berger) is to "help men succeed in life." Moses Ndugwa heads up Every Man A Warrior in Uganda, and on today's Footsteps, Moses gently but passionately states that "God desires to see ... men that are after His own heart," and Moses attests to the fact that indeed God is using Every Man A Warrior to transform men's hearts!
