In John chapter 9, Jesus tells His disciples:

"As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me.  Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." (John 9:4-5, NIV)

Shortly thereafter, Jesus was arrested, crucified, and physically taken out of this world.  And then, we read one of those famous "but God" verses:

"But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him." (Acts 2:24, NIV)

Now, as we carry out Jesus' assignment for us to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19a, NIV), we are not alone, our risen Savior is with us "always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20b, NIV).  You see, Jesus, the light of the world, is shining through us, and it's our responsibility and honor to shine brightly in our darkening culture.

I don't know about you, but I sense an ever-increasing urgency for proclaiming the Gospel to this lost world.  I'm not alone.  On today's Footsteps, Dan Hatfield of Nations One feels the need "to reach as many people as quickly as we can."  May today's program motivate you to join us in swiftly sharing the Good News of Jesus while we still have some daylight!
