I Just Throw Out a Line
Does the thought of sharing your faith with others make you nervous? You say, "Absolutely! I don't know how to get a conversation like that started." Well, on today's Footsteps, Dr. Erwin Lutzer, pastor emeritus of the Moody Church in Chicago says, "I just throw out a line." He gets the ball rolling by tossing out a broad question about God or about the person's "spiritual journey." You might still be objecting by saying, "But I wouldn't know where to go from there. I don't know the right words to say." Let me quote Donald Whitney from his book Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life. He writes:
"Some fear witnessing because they don’t feel confident enough in their persuasive powers or their ability to answer all imaginable objections to the gospel. But the power for evangelism is not in our ability; it is in His gospel ... Don’t doubt the power of God to add His blessing upon your words when you speak of Christ."(1)
I don't know about you, but that's a confidence booster to me!
