Imprisoned in a Lack of Truth
On today's Footsteps, TWR's Lonnie Berger (author of the Every Man a Warrior men's small-group curriculum) states, "I find many men who ... are imprisoned in a lack of understanding--a lack of truth." Lonnie's observation reminded me of Romans 6:20 (NKJV) where the apostle Paul refers to unbelievers as "slaves of sin." Without Jesus, humans are in bondage to sin as well as in bondage to Satan. Jesus puts it this way:
"You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth ..." (John 8:42-45a, NKJV)
God's Word is clear--Satan is a liar. On the other hand, Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life!" (John 14:6a, NKJV) The only way that a person can be set free from the bondage of sin and death and experience freedom in this life and eternal life in Heaven is through Jesus.
