Harry and Eileen Bettig met at a missionary retreat for singles.  Harry was serving with TWR in the Netherlands while Eileen was part of a different missions organization and serving in Paris, France.  If you listened to the previous two episodes of Footsteps, you heard a snippet of their dating and engagement story.

On today's program, as the happy couple reflects on their time prior to finding each other, Eileen makes an insightful and biblical point about being single.  "I believe very strongly that you have to do the battle of being content and thankful with being single, that it's not second best."  The apostle Paul would agree.  First, Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 7:8 (ESV), "To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am."  Then, in Philippians 4:11 (ESV), Paul generally states "for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content."  Obviously, that attitude includes singleness.

Even though both Harry and Eileen were content with being single, God graciously brought them together as husband and wife.  May He be praised for blessing them with each other!
