An Awakening in Cuba
God used the preaching of men like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield to usher in America's "First Great Awakening" in the 1730s and 1740s. Benjamin Franklin, in his autobiography, described the scene in Philadelphia--"It was wonderful to see the change soon made in the manner of our inhabitants. From being thoughtless or indifferent about religion, it seemed as if all the world were growing religious, so that one could not walk through the town in an evening without hearing psalms sung in different families of every street."(1) Wouldn't we like to see that in America today? Abosolutely! But, "Great Awakenings" are not limited to the United States. In fact, on today's Footsteps, Alberto Gonzalez, TWR's Ministry Director to Cuba, says that for many years, Cuban believers were praying for an "awakening" in their country, and now "the Spirit of God is working inside Cuba!" May God be praised for what He is doing in the hearts of the Cuban people.
