The Existence of Angels
Wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go, without turning as they went. – Ezekiel 1:12
There is little doubt that the language of Ezekiel is figurative. The principles, however, are real. The prophet is writing about future events, and God’s angels will play a very important role in those events. In fact, since the beginning of time, they have been on the move—protecting His creation, doing His will, worshipping Him, and helping to keep order in the heavenly places.
The prophet Isaiah records the scene in heaven as he witnessed the seraphim worshipping God. “I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him . . . one called out to another and said, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory’” (Isaiah 6:1-3).
Angels have a lot more significance than our culture has given them. Most importantly, they were created by God for God. In Colossians 2:18, Paul writes, “Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels.” Angels are created beings, spiritual beings, and personal beings. They have intellect, but they cannot experience the gift of salvation that God has given us. One day we will rule with Him in heaven—something His angels have not been called to do.
Are you taking full advantage of your prized relationship with Jesus Christ? You were not created in the image of an angel— you were created in the image of God.
