God Is Talking
He rode upon a cherub and flew; and He sped upon the wings of the wind. – Psalm 18:10
When I was growing up in Baltimore, I visited my grandmother every weekend. Whenever I was there, she let me watch the popular mid-1950s TV shows. But if it ever started to thunder, my grandmother would say, “Tony!”
Even though I knew what she was going to tell me, I would reply, “What, Grandma?”
“Turn the television off!”
I would try to keep the discussion going. “Why?”
“You know why,” she would answer. “’Cause God’s talking!”
“Grandma, God is not talking. I’m in the middle of this show.” Then she would appear in the doorway, and I knew the conversation had ended.
What I want to suggest to you is this—often we cannot see God’s hand at work behind the wind and storms in our lives. However, let me assure you that the spiritual realm is real. God is the one who is ultimately responsible for everything that touches our lives.
The eyes of our hearts and minds need to be fixed on Jesus throughout all of life. The author of Hebrews tells us, “He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3). He is the one who meets us at every turn in life with open arms of love and acceptance.
He is the One you will hear talking in the middle of life’s storms.
