God Chooses Very Strangely
As we continue our journey through the book of 1 Samuel, today’s teaching might seem to be illogical to the natural mind. But those whose spiritual perception is fine tuned will understand how God ‘choices sometimes seem a bit strange.
Disobedience Has Consequences
There’s a truism that sheds light on situations where one might think that they “got away” with something: “Just because you didn’t hear the trap snap doesn’t mean you didn’t get caught!” Today passage shows clearly that disobedience has consequences.
Disobedience Calls For Discipline
We talk a lot about discipleship but don’t often make the connection between the word disciple and the word discipline. Be it children at home or adults at church, discipline is not popular, but it is often necessary. In today’s passage we find that disobedience calls for discipline. It did then, and it still does today.
God Uses Ordinary People
Often when we read of the exploits of those God used in His Word, we think of them as supermen or super women. Even in our day and time as we see those who are making a real difference in the lives of others, we might ask ourselves, “Who am I?” and “What can I do? I’m just an ordinary person.” It’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Using ordinary people is God’s specialty.
God is A God Of Second Chances
One of the amazing dynamics of God’s character is His incredible patience with us. Psalm 86:15 says it well: "But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness." The Bible is full of people who received second chances, and even third and fourth chances: Peter, Jonah, Mark, Samson, David, and others. And thankfully, you can add your name to the list.
Follow Jesus Or keeping The Peace?
What did Jesus mean when he said that He came not to bring peace, but sword? Does that sound radical? It does and it is. Dr. Andrew Hart takes a deep dive into these words of Christ and challenges us to do likewise.
There Are Positive Results That Come From Faithfulness
The results of a survey administered to 54 students and faculty from a small, private Illinois college and 35 students from a small community college in Illinois give us insight into how a person’s faith relates to their personality characteristics. The findings showed that people who rate a high personal relationship with God experienced increased joy in their lives- even through times of testing. Faith is defined as an unquestioning belief that does not require proof or evidence. For Christians, faithfulness to God allows one to find fulfillment in life. In today’s teaching we’ll find that many other benefits come from our faithfulness to Him.
Passing God’s Test Requires Preparation
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” It may be an old saying, but it’s a true saying, and in today’s teaching we learn about preparing for the tests on life that God allows to come our way.
The Godly Traits Of Mothers
Today we honor Mother’s Day with a special message from the story of Jesus’ miracle at the wedding in John chapter 2. There, his mother exhibited the godly traits that all moms should strive for.
