From Chapter 9:1-2 of the prophecy of Daniel (דָנִיאֶל), brother Gideon Levytam directs our attention to Daniel’s faithfulness in reading the Hebrew Scriptures, while in captivity. Although Daniel lived in a foreign land, under the rule of the Babylonian and Persian kingdoms, he longed for the restoration of his people back to their homeland. In his careful meditation of God’s Word to Jeremiah the prophet, Daniel understood that the seventy years of Jerusalem’s desolation, and the captivity of the Jewish people was about to end. Daniel now prepares himself to make an appeal for his people Israel, praying to his gracious God on their behalf.
