From Chapter 11:21-35 of the prophecy of Daniel (דָנִיאֶל), brother Gideon Levytam directs our attention to the prophetic events the Angel of the LORD revealed to Daniel. The Angel foretold the rise of a vile person who’s heart would be against the Jews, the people of the holy covenant. He would pollute the Temple of God, take away the daily sacrifices, erect a pagan altar, and commit the abomination of desolation. History teaches us that Antiochus Epiphanes, the Grecian Syrian king, fulfilled this prophecy. Antiochus went up to Jerusalem, entered into the temple, and erected a pagan altar upon which he offered an unclean pig. In doing so, Antiochus defiled the sanctuary, he then set up a statue of Jupiter, and dedicated the temple to the pagan god, committing what is referred to as "the abomination that makes desolate.” Antiochus' actions point to a future abomination which will take place during the tribulation period, when the Antichrist will rise up and commit an even greater "abomination of desolation".
