From chapter 8:7-13 on the study of the Book of Hebrews (אֶל־הָעִבְרִים), brother Gideon Levytam recounts the author's explanation as to why God had to establish a New Covenant with His people Israel. The Mount Sinai covenant was a conditional covenant, and sadly it was broken because of sin. No-one could keep God’s Holy Covenant because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Man-kind broke God’s Holy Law, and because we have inherited a sin nature, we have failed to submit completely to God’s perfect holy demands. In His wisdom and grace, God made a promise saying. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah. Jeremiah 31:31. This New Covenant would not be based on people's ability to keep God’s Holy Law, but rather upon the death, burial, and resurrection of the promised Messiah who was to come. Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah fulfilled God's Word, becoming a sacrifice for the sin of the world, and through His own death and resurrection, established the New Covenant with His shed blood.
