The book of Haggai was written to the Jewish remnant that had returned to their homeland after the Babylonian captivity. Unfortunately, they were suffering from spiritual insensitivity and inertia. God had been put on their back burner, and his kingdom priorities had become secondary to their personal priorities. So though the people were supposed to put God first by rebuilding the temple, they were letting it lay in ruins while they built their own houses. At the same time, however, they wanted God to prioritize them. One of the kingdom principles seen throughout Scripture is that we must seek God’s kingdom and glory above all. God will not allow himself to be in second place in the lives of his people. His message through Haggai was that if the people would put his kingdom agenda before their own agenda, then they would have his help. He wanted them to know what Jesus would tell his disciples many years later: “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you” (Matt 6:33). ▶ Do you know Jesus as your Savior? https://tonyevans.org/know-jesus-christ/ ▶ Stream Sermons: https://tonyevans.org/podcast/ ▶▶ Free Sermon App: https://subsplash.com/tonyevans/app/ ▶▶ DONATE: https://give.tonyevans.org/the-alternative/donation ▶ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drtonyevans/ ▶ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drtonyevans/ ▶ Are you a preacher?
