From chapter 1:1-7 of the book of Lamentations - אֵיכָה, brother Gideon Levytam relates the sad cry of Jeremiah, and the people of Judah, over the destruction of the Solomonic Temple by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. It was on the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av, when Nebuchadnezzar and his army destroyed Jerusalem, burnt the Temple of God, and carried away many of the Jews to Babylon. This day of Tisha B’Av (תִּשְׁעָה בְּאָב) became a day of mourning for the Jews, as many catastrophes took place on that same day.
