How many times have you heard that from your teenager? They think once they hit that magic number of adulthood they’ll be left alone and won’t have any rules. While all families are different, we still had rules while our kids were living as adults under our roof. No curfew, but phone calls letting us know where they were and respect for our sleeping patterns were a must. And, as long as they were going to school, they didn’t have to pay rent, but, if not, we asked for a modest contribution for room and board. Why? Because even as adults there are rules. As followers of Christ, Titus 3:1 tells us “to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work” (ESV). Let’s help our adult kids be ready for that.
I can’t wait until I’m 18.
