They won’t listen, but they’re my step-kids

As parents, we’re called to love and guide our kids, whether they’re biological and step. But parenting step-kids who are disobeying can be a challenge. The Bible does offer guidance, though. Ephesians 6 is clear, “Children OBEY your parents.” In Proverbs 22 it says “TRAIN up a child in the way he should go.” While the Bible doesn’t specifically mention stepparents, we’re parents who are stepping INTO a parenting role. So, establish clear boundaries, enforce them consistently, with love and patience. Then, try to understand where their disobedience is coming from. We know it’s sin. Remind them of that and the Jesus came to save us from it. Turn to the Bible for guidance as we parent the kids in our lives, step, or not.
